The Problem with Meryl

I love the Left. Meryl Streep gives a tone deaf speech denigrating middle America and portraying millionaire Hollywood actors as victims and all her defenders can say is, “What’s wrong with defending disabled people?”

Well, nothing, and I’m glad she did. It’s the other 90 percent of her speech that’s the problem, and they know it, so they act like by criticizing her we are all somehow defending Donald Trump’s past behavior (by the way, there is some debate surrounding his intent that day).

This is right out of their playbook; defend the indefensible by deflecting and/or namecalling. How many times have they shouted “racist” out of desperation when they’ve clearly lost an argument?

But, on the off chance they are genuinely confused this time, I’ll do them the favor of pointing out precisely what was wrong with her pathetic attempt at heroism from the bully pulpit.

1. Donald Trump wants to deport all foreigners AND middle America is incapable of appreciating the arts – “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick ’em all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts,” she said enthusiastically, “which are not the arts.” The first part of this statement assumes that Trump has vowed to deport all foreigners, which is simply a bold-faced lie. Last time I checked Natalie Portman didn’t swim across the Rio Grande to land that terrible role in the Star Wars prequels. The second part is a slap in the face to Trump voters, who voted for him specifically due to elitist bullshit like this. You see, they are the “bread and circuses” type, too stupid to appreciate art and certainly not capable of creating it.

2. Hollywood is the victim – “All of us in this room, really, belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now,” she said. “Think about it: Hollywood, foreigners and the press.” Yeah sorry, but forgive me for not shedding a tear for a bunch of multi-millionaires who act like other people for a living. It must be gut wrenching jet-setting between New York, LA, and Cannes while rehashing the plots of old comic books.

3. “We’re going to need them going forward and they’ll need us to safeguard the truth,” she said, speaking about the need to protect journalists. Wow! Where in the hell was this desire for journalistic integrity when we were lied to about government surveillance, keeping our doctor, or the collusion of journalists in helping Streep’s beloved Democratic Party rig their primary? A day late and a dollar short Meryl (who named their kid Meryl anyways?).

So yes, she defended disabled people by digging up an event from the fairly distant past, and I’m pretty sure everyone agrees with her on this point. But that’s not all she did, and you know it. So feel free to keep defending an entitled millionaire while she pisses all over the middle class; after all, it’s why Trump won in the first place.
